Music
I have a pretty eclectic taste in music, happy to listen to anything really but my passion is electronic music - dance, techno and trance.
In high school I took guitar lessons but I think the fact that I was forced to learn it, meant that I was not really interested at the time (like so many other things!).
My journey of music production started when as a teenager I used to mix songs together using a combination of 2 cd players (my sony discman and my parents stereo) and a simple channel mixer to produce mix tapes. Very limited and the results were not great but the tapes were a constant feature whenever I was driving. This led to one of my mother's all time favourite calls which we remind her of frequently: While driving into town one day, the song on the tape was repeating "Base-line kicking" however after a few bars of this, my mother turns to me with a very serious and deeply confused look on her face and asks "Baste my chicken? Why are they talking about basting chickens?". Easily my favourite mondegreen!
Next part of the journey would be the 1998 game/application "Music" for the Sony Playstation. I doubt if any of the songs I made survived but I fondly remember one track: "Optabbit" which featured a psychedelic rabbit pulsing in time with the beat. While a few of my friends were getting into the DJ scene, I was just having fun and never wanted to turn it anything more than a hobby.
Fast forward a few years, a few piano lessons, a bit of music theory and a few attempts at using some other DAWs, I decided to buy myself an Akai MPKmini which comes with MPC beats. I have really enjoyed playing around and creating tracks using this setup and even though it will be never more than a hobby and I don't expect many other people actually listen to my songs (my family are forced to!), It is something that I hope to continue working on into the future.
I created an artist/band name of Optimaphonica (see banner at top of the page) and all my songs can be found on:
