Now

Something I have seen on a few other personal sites is the concept of a 'now' page. What am I doing at the moment? Books I'm reading, movies (cinema) that I have seen or series I'm watching, games I'm playing, etc. Since I usually post something every month or so, I am committing to updating this list on a monthly basis as it is likely to change and become out of date.

Here is my list for July 2026:

  • Book:
Just finished I am currently reading 'Empress of Forever' by Max Gladstone. It was a bit of a slog but I enjoyed the story, characters were good and wouldn't mind reading more of his work. I am now reading The Magicians Guide by Trudi Canavan. Something I have read before and I really enjoy the story but my wife recently recommended it to our daughter so we have all decided to read it together. Strangely we were comparing notes the other day (we all started reading it a few weeks ago), and we are all up to the same spot!
  • Movie:
Haven't been to the movies for a while and there are a few I wouldn't mind seeing - new Mortal Kombat, Mando and Grogu (Star Wars), Masters of the Universe - but I could probably wait until they hit the small screen. Masters of the Universe became available on streaming this week so we watched it last night. Such a nostalgia fest - characters and vehicles from the original 80's cartoon - I even had a few still in my old toybox too! They nailed the camp/cheesy vibe, had some great action, slapstick, and humour all landed well so I was loving it!
  • Series:
Recently finished watching the 2nd seasons of Andor and of Paradise. Really enjoyed both - the building tension of Andor was fantastic, something they also did in season 1, and it had me watching Rogue One directly after I finished the season. Paradise definitely had some twists and turns and I'm looking forward to season 3.
  • Games:
Factorio has been occupying some of my spare time recently and I'm in the middle of a Mass Effect paythrough - has to be one of my all time favourites! My middle son is asking to play it so it might become an opportunity to go through it together.
  • Learning:
I have been doing some learning on Flask to create websites. Working through Python Anywhere which is pretty awesome for creating anything python related. And Free! Have a couple of other courses lined up - one for pixel art and another for building some Godot games.
  • Other:
I have been doing some goal keeping for my hockey team. I have been really enjoying keeping, may not be the best at it but it is good fun!
