Mid year update for 2023

OMG, this is the third time I am trying to write this post. I get about 4 paragraphs in and the browser crashes and I lose it all! Super frustrating!

Looking back at the previous posts I feel that this update is a bit overdue, there has been a lot going on so I like to delude myself that this is a valid reason for my procrastination but I always find myself thinking about how much I should be writing on a public website (not that many would be reading it) when that information could be used for purposes other than intended.

Due to this being the 3rd time I have had to write this list from scratch, I am going to keep it super brief:

  • My wife ruptured her ACL, partially tore ligaments around her knee and fractured her tibia in a few places just below the knee. She has been in a huge amount of pain, stuck on the couch for weeks unable to do anything except work from home. I have had to step up my game around the house. I honestly don't mind it but it's been busy!
  • Field Hockey season is in full swing and I have been playing in two tiers this year. Lots of games and there have been a few small injuries. I volunteered to do some umpiring. Everyone was really supportive but after a couple of bad experiences where people were less than supportive, it almost killed my love of the game and led to a bit of an existential crisis. I have decided to just focus on playing/spectating for now.
  • We are going to be installing a pool in the backyard! It is a major investment and there is so much work involved in getting it all setup but it is super exciting!

I plan to come back and elaborate on these points in the future (having the browser crash twice on me already, I'm surprised it held up so far) but until then, my son decided to get creative with his dinner one night and make a tree out of his sausages and salad (see associated picture). I love it!.
