Lightning Update

11 Jun 2025

home work

This will be a quick list of all the things that have been going on in the past two months: Sadly, no lightning - although now that I say that, it reminds me of a storm that hit us a few months ago: Some amazing flashes of fork lightning which I love to watch but all of my kids are terrified of lightning and thunder. To prove to them that there was nothing to worry about, I decided to head out onto the back patio (under cover) to look at the incredible display of flashes. No sooner had I stepped out the door, when a huge flash of lightning hit a house just over the back fence - the thunderclap was so loud my ears were ringing. It was a little too close for comfort so I made a very quick retreat inside much to the amusement of my family!
  • We had a very young echidna (puggle) make an appearance at work (see photo). It seems like the little fellow got lost so one of the librarians called WIRES and after a visit to the vet, was released back in the nature reserve.
  • Middle childs birthday - He turned 12 this year and we took a group of his friends to see the Minecraft movie. Two carloads full of sugar fueled mayhem!
  • Easter - Catching up with family and lots of chocolate Easter eggs. It was great to see my sister, nephew and nieces.
  • Motorbike ride - I finally got the opportunity to head out on a group ride! Pretty small group but we went out past Oberon, Lithgow and back through some back roads. Was an awesome morning, can't wait for the next one!
  • Hockey Masters - Played in Newcastle over 3 days. We won 2 and lost 2, much better result than last year and a few of the team were selected to play for NSW which is awesome. Unfortunately I strained my calf the week before so I didn't play as well as I had hoped but it was a lot of fun with a great group of guys.
  • Speaking of Hockey, the local comp has started and we are doing pretty well against some strong teams but I injured my back in the last game and it's still giving me some grief.
  • Winter sport for the kids has also started. One doing Soccer and one playing NRL. They both seem to be enjoying themselves which is good. We haven't had too many clashes but weekends are certainly busy travelling to all the different venues!
  • Eldest has recently started her first job at Maccas. Its crazy to think that she is working in the same store I (and both my sisters) used to when we were her age. She is really enjoying it which is awesome.
  • Work has been busy - my Manager took a few weeks off so I was holding down the fort. We are also reviewing subscriptions at the moment. We set up a survey to gather feedback so looking forward to seeing the results.
  • I also just gave a presentation at a conference for the work we did on creating the semi-automated finance integration (see previous post).

Thats it for this one - not a lot of detail but I plan to write a more detailed account of events in the next one
