Video Nostalgia

I was speaking with my daughter the other day, we were trying to figure out what movie we were going to watch - she said she was thinking about watching an action, and then suggested we watch 'Pitch Perfect 2'. Not sure how she thought 'Pitch Perfect 2' was an action but searching by genre reminded me of the times as a child that we would pile into the car and head into town to visit Video Ezy (and later Blockbuster) to rent a video/DVD for the weekend.

We have a sizable bookshelf full of DVD's at home (many an hour has been spent trying to figure out what to watch) and I was trying to get her to imagine a massive room with rows upon rows of shelves filled with thousands of vides/DVDs all lined up all in their respective genres. I was recounting to her my joy of finding a new release title that had an available copy, or the awesome time we had picking 10 movies for the school holidays (and getting through them all in less than a week and then complaining that we were bored for the rest of it!). I was met with a shrug and a blank face which is understandable, how do you capture that magic and give it to someone that has never experienced it? But, it made me nostalgic for all these experiences that are no longer possible and for what the younger generation missed out on. It dawned on me that this is what getting old looks like.

In a slightly related note, its my birthday soon - I am getting old!
